"Fit for a King!"

We were thrilled to learn that Prince Charles and Camilla enjoyed our Mount Tamalpais Vineyards Merlot during their November visit to Marin County to learn more about Marin County’s leadership position in sustainable farming. We understand Camilla loved our "claret" (as she called it)! One restaurateur told us our wine is truly "Fit for a King!”

Winter 2005/2006

Our 2005 harvest was one that winegrowers dream about – lots of cool weather and a relatively calm pace to the harvest. Grape quality looks superb – and we celebrated Marin’s first harvest of Riesling, the “other” noble white grape (besides Chardonnay). Our Pinot Noir harvest, however, was extremely small (less than 1.5 tons/acre), meaning our Vintage 2005 (to be released in 2007) will be even more tightly allocated.

Marin's First Riesling Coming Soon!

We just love dry Riesling. Among serious wine lovers, it is considered the only other "noble white grape variety, along with Chardonnay. It is really just so much better than Chardonnay - and can age gracefully for years. But many of the California Rieslings are grown in areas far too warm for this northern variety and taste clumsy, dull and usually very sweet. So we decided to do some research and found a very rare clone (species) of Riesling in the town of Neustadt, Germany and brought in some budwood and grafted it into the vineyard in 2004. Well, let's just say we can almost hear this Riesling say "I love living in Marin County!" because it has responded so well. Stay tuned!
