What's New - Spring 2009
With the advent of warm weather in northern California, the recent release of our Vintage 2008 Pey-Marin Riesling "The Shell Mound" has been a godsend. Perhaps no other wine captures the freshness and steeliness which is so enjoyable on a warm day. We believe our 2008 Riesling is our best effort yet as it maintains its earlier racy, dry qualities and yet has a slightly richer mid-palate which will continue to evolve as it ages. Its "flavor footprint" is so closely tied to the vineyard as it is not overpowered by Malolactic fermentation or oak barrels in the winery. We believe it is one of the purest expression of that elusive French term "terroir".
Next to it we released our Vintage 2007 Spicerack Syrah "Punchdown" from the Sonoma Coast. This Syrah celebrates what can be done with this Rhone varietal when handled gently and not overburdened with oak. Its site experiences very cool weather patterns and after hand harvesting sees no new oak in the winery. Some have said this is a risky proposition as unless one has superb quality grapes and winemaking capability there is no room to hide any flaws in the wine. (Some winemakers can mask a wines flaws with new oak barrels.) We chose to "open the kimono" a bit and go for it and the result is spectacular - and at only $25 we challenge you to find a better Sonoma Coast Syrah at this price.
Lastly, we are proud to make the available poster available to you in our effort to encourage people to enjoy the agricultural bounty that surrounds us in northern California. Click here to download the poster as a PDF.
We hope to see you soon.
